ILFORD has regained its title as Britain's luckiest area for lottery wins.

The postcode topped the table for five years until 2007 when it was overtaken by Medway in Kent - but it has taken the lead again after one in every 6,722 of its ticketholders won a 'top prize' last year.

Newcastle-Upon-Tyne rose to second place with one in every 6,884 players tasting success.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: "The Ilford postcode seems to be back on a lucky streak after regaining the top ranking from Medway Towns but it's got strong competition from the Newcastle postcode which is hot on its heels after another lucky year.

"Now that the Bromley postcode has entered the top ten, it's Kent and the North East which are dominating the luck rankings with three postcodes each featuring this year.

"No matter where you live, however, with an average of 20 millionaires created in each postcode and £36 billion paid out in prizes since 1994, it's clear that lottery luck has touched every part of the UK."
