AN ENTHUSIASTIC fundraiser has just £100 to go before she hits her £3,000 target for Cancer Research UK.

Maurya Brady, 21, who works at Walthamstow Job Centre, has spent the past few months working hard to raise funds for her ten-day trek through the Peruvian Andes in September.

She has been supported throughout her efforts by the Bell pub in Forest Road, who held a casino night with an Elvis tribute act and a barbecue last weekend which raised £150.

Ms Brady said: "It has been a real challenge raising the money but I have had great support from my friends at the Bell and my colleagues at the job centre."

"I was also very lucky to have the support of local stuntman Terry Cole.

His 24-hour walk down the High Street wearing oil drums raised £1000, for which I am very grateful.

Ms Brady has also stood outside Selborne Walk and local Underground stations with collection tins and is planning to raise the final £100 in this way.

She said: "Once the fundraising is over I can start preparing for my trek in earnest. It will be a tough physical test but by doing lots of exercise and eating healthily I should be ready for it.

Money raised by Ms Brady will go towards research into cancer and training of cancer doctors.
