A LACK of consultation with minority groups has left the future of the Redbridge Police Consultative Committee (RPCC) under threat.

Chairman Councillor Ralph Scott told a meeting of the group that it had only been able to secure funding from the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) for a further six months rather than the year it was hoping for.

He said: "I thought we were doing a lot of things right here and had a lot of ethnic minority group members and that the police had a lot of consultation measures in place with ethnic minority groups.

"If anyone from the ethnic minority groups feels we are not doing enough, please let us have your views because we have to show the MPA that we mean business."

The RPCC has also been asked to submit a detailed programme outlining their attempts to engage gay, lesbian and other community groups.

Cllr Lee Scott said: "There is no visible, organised gay community in this borough with which we can relate. The cases where they have suffered harassment are very few and far between and I only know of one."
