A MAN who advertised his £4,000 BMW for sale had it stolen by a bogus buyer in Woodford Bridge.

The 41-year-old, from Hermon Hill, South Woodford, was contacted by a man asking to view the car and the pair met on June 1 for a test drive.

They stopped in Chigwell Road at around 2.45pm and the prospective buyer asked the owner if he could lift up the bonnet. As the owner got out the passenger jumped into the driver's seat and sped off in the car, registration X592 PHD.

The thief is described as being of Mediteranean appearance, around 40 years old and politely spoken. He was wearing dog-tooth dark grey trousers.

Witnesses should ring Ilford police on 345 2779.
