A MAN who was stabbed in the leg near a leisure centre was trying to buy a car from the men who attacked him, it has been reported.
The 40-year-old victim was attacked on February 4 in Redbridge Lane West at the junction with Corbett Road, near Wanstead Leisure Centre, at about 6.30pm.
Two men were arrested in connection with the attack, which reportedly happened when the victim responded to an advert saying the car was for sale.
A spokesman for Redbridge Police confirmed the suspects fled in a black Peugeot following the attack.
Police are now warning people to be especially vigilant when responding to such adverts and are advising against taking significant sums of cash with them.
The victim was taken to Whipps Cross University Hospital, in Leytonstone, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Acquisitive Crime Unit at Ilford police station on 8345 2610.
