Waltham Forest students meet Olympians at legacy event

STUDENTS met Olympians and got a preview of the Olympic Park.

More than 70 students from the five Olympic host boroughs attended the event in Stratford yesterday, including students from Waltham Forest College and Sir George Monoux Students, both in Walthamstow.

The event marked the launch of the country's first ever Legacy Champions initiative, which aims to involve more young people in how the area will change post-2012.

Students enjoyed inspirational speeches from six-time Olympian, Tessa Sanderson, and four-time Paralympian swimmer, Dervis Konuralp, who they got to meet in person.

They also took part in workshops at the "View Tube" - a community venue opposite the Olympic Park, which includes a café, education and arts spaces, and a viewing platform over the Olympic Park stadium and the Stratford City development.
