Take care on holiday

EXERCISING caution is probably the last thing on your mind when having the time of your life in a foreign country.

But that is what the Suzy Lamplugh Trust urges young women to do when enjoying sun, sea, sangria, and the sanguine charms of a local playboy on holiday.

The leading authority on personal safety makes the distinction between a sensible, sober mental state and the shedding of people's inhibitions when drunk.

"Being safe is about being in control. Alcohol can make you very relaxed and much more confident than usual, but think about how this affects your safety.

"The best way to stay safe on a night out without spoiling your fun is to plan ahead," said a spokeswoman.

One of the group should stay relatively sober to keep an eye on the others especially what goes into their drinks. Date rape is the chief danger for young women holidaying in foreign climes.

Being aware of the difference in local culture is also important and wearing next to nothing may put you in danger.

Walking home at night alone is a no-no. Walking back in a group or at least pairs is a must.
