Moreton Primary School children dress up to promote reading

CARTOON characters came to life when a primary school celebrated World Book Day.

Mr Men, super heroes, and even SpongeBob SquarePants, turned out at Moreton Primary School, in a dressing up day to encourage reading and greater literacy.

Children at the school, in Church Road, also received a visit from author Dave Smith, who was brought up in Epping, who taught them how to add humour to their fiction.

Drama workshops, and story-telling sessions took place, and the school received a visit from the travelling book fair from which they could buy new reading material.

Headteacher Linda Wiskin said: “The idea is to celebrate books and improve children's reading. It was very successful. We were making good use of traditional story-telling to create an exciting day.

“There were some very good costumes and the children were really into it.”
