Oaklands School took part in the Children's Marathon for Leukaemia

IT was a marathon effort, but a school successfully raised more than £5,000 for charity through a variety of fund-raising feats.

Under the Children's Marathon for Leukaemia, pupils at Oaklands School, in Albion Hill, Loughton, took part in a series of sponsored events which saw them raising a total of £5,240.

Rather than undergoing a 26 mile run, children took part in challenges including skipping 26 times without touching the rope, picking up 26 smarties with a straw, and running 26 laps round a tennis court. Younger pupils were set the task of writing the numbers one to 26.

Headteacher Pam Simmonds said: “It was a simply amazing achievement and we are very grateful to all the parents who supported us.”

On the same day, the school also had a book fair which raised £2,000 with some of the money to be used towards the purchase of new reading material.
