Hospital awards

TWO teams as well as five members of staff and a volunteer have become the second group winners of the new Princess Commendation Award at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The winners work in all parts of the hospital trust and were nominated by either their colleagues, visitors or patients they have cared for, recognising their outstanding contribution to the work of the hospital.

The criteria for the awards is based on dedication shown above and beyond the normal call of duty in providing care to patients or hospital services, a consistent and high quality care to patients and colleagues and a commitment that inspires others.

Alan Farmer, the trust's director of workforce and development, said: "We have had another fine selection of people nominated for our new awards.

"It's particularly satisfying that two teams have been given a thumbs-up from patients and fellow staff members alike."

The winners received a gilt Princess commendation badge and a certificate commemorating their achievement from trust chairman Robert Powell and chief executive John Gilham.

An additional cash award was given to the nursing team from Cavell Ward, which cares for short-stay surgical patients.

Individual winners were Elaine Fletcher (staffing administrator main theatres), Kelly Lubke (nursing auxillary on Chamberlen Maternity Ward), Christa Findell (head of management accounts), Annette Harman (nutrition nurse specialist), Dr Helen Cooke (senior house officer, anaesthetics) and Ray Ward volunteer Gordon Harris.

Team winners were the Galen House Oncology Team and the Cavell Ward nursing staff.
