REDBRIDGE: Open day planned for handyman scheme

PENSIONERS looking for a little help with minor repairs around the home can find out more about the council's handyman service at a special open day this month.

People aged over 60 and other vulnerable residents from across the borough will get the chance to learn more about the assistance on offer from the authority - from changing light bulbs to unblocking sinks - at the Handyperson Open Day on Tuesday March 23.

The event will take place in the York Room at Ilford Central Library from 10am until 1pm.

A council spokeswoman said: "The scheme is provided for free or at a small cost depending on your eligibility.

"A 24-hour service is available in emergency situations. The service is available for homeowners and tenants where the landlord is not responsible but has given permission for the work to be carried out.

"To find out if you qualify for the Handyperson scheme and for more information on the event, call 8708 4864."

"For information about help with larger jobs, elderly homeowners or homeowners with disabilities should call the Redbridge Home Improvement Agency on: 0845 6019678."
