RESIDENTS demanding answers over the routing of service vehicles to the proposed Tesco site have received a response from the council.
The controversial development, which was approved by Waltham Forest Council in October last year, includes a 24-hour superstore and 250 homes on empty industrial land along Larkshall Road.
South Chingford Community Council tonight heard a response from the council's planning department about the routing of vehicles, after residents questioned details in the planning application.
At last month's community council meeting, resident Keith Foster had asked why the stated route to the site was along Hale End Road from the A406, when there was no access in that direction.
The council's response, read to tonight's meeting, said the route had been considered by traffic engineers and the intention was to "protect the most sensitive areas", identified as Winchester Road and Larkshall Road.
The statement read: "Since the first application for a food store on the site, the HGV delivery route has been identified as being to and from Hale End Road.
"It had always been accepted by Tesco and Waltham Forest Council officers that this would require arrivals to use Wadham Road."
The statement also said Tesco had "delivery protocols" which included managing routes and times of deliveries and drivers were "contractually required" to follow advised routes.
