CUFFLINKS and flowers were presented to council chief executive Dave Burbage to mark 25 years of service.
Mayor Sir Robin Wales presented the gifts to him during the annual meeting of the full council at East Ham Town Hall. Sir Robin said: "Dave has played a major role in the dramatic improvements that have taken place in Newham and his work has been the bedrock of our recent successes."
Mr Burbage joined the authority in 1980 and held a number of senior finance posts including director of finance and deputy chief executive before being appointed chief executive in October 1999.
Mr Burbage said: "Newham is a great place in which to work, with such great support from the Mayor, elected members and fellow officers. It has been a privilege and I am looking forward to helping us build on our achievements."
