Big thanks from 2012 ambassador

LONDON 2012 ambassador and philanthropist Ivan Corea has thanked the people of Wanstead and Woodford for supporting the bid.

The local resident and head of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK payed tribute to the London 2012 team and Tony Blair for their work and called the accomplishment London's finest hour'.

Mr Corea, of Buckhurst Way, Buckhurst Hill, has initiated the largest ever movement for autism in the UK and launched 2002 as Autism Awareness Year.

Mr Corea and his wife Charika have campaigned for an end to the postcode lottery for access to basic education, health and care for autistic people and their carers after they were frustrated trying to gain support for their autistic son Charin, who attends schools in Buckhurst Hill and Woodford Green.

They have received awards from Mr Blair and were nominated for the prestigious Beacon Prize for their achievements.

The Olympics coming to London would be wonderful for all people with disabilities, he said.

"London will organise the greatest show on earth in 2012. The bid had vision and Seb Coe ran a marvellous race striking gold in Singapore. The Olympic and Paralympic Games will be good for Britain, good for London, good for all communities and for all people with disabilities.

"The people of Wanstead and Woodford also supported the bid and every single vote helped us win the big prize in Singapore. I just want to thank them for supporting the London 2012 bid."
