Woodford House 235 High Road South Woodford TEL: 020 8504 0515

THIS intimate little restaurant may be easy to miss given its location on the High Road, although as I was soon to discover it is certainly worth keeping an eye out for.

Having originally set out to review a nearby Italian that was unfortunately full to the rafters, myself and my partner decided to give this Chinese a try.

As it wasn't too busy we were quickly seated at one of the nine tables in the venue by a friendly and smiling waitress, who was soon back to hand us a fairly extensive menu and take our drink orders and prawn cracker request.

And while the interior dcor of this venue could perhaps do with a bot of a make-over, we soon realised that the prices of dishes were very reasonable.

We also discovered that quantity and quality weren't sacrificed either, because our shared hot appetiser was quickly delighting our taste buds.

Made up of chicken satay, spare ribs, pancake rolls prawn toast and crispy seaweed, there was certainly plenty to enjoy.

All of these items proved delicious and while the ribs may have benefited from some sauce, the meat certainly shredded away from the bone very easily and proved very tasty and was certainly not too chewy.

The seaweed also proved to be one of the nicest I've ever experienced and had certainly got our meal off to a great start.

For our main courses we decided to share a large house special chow mein, sizzling prawns with spring onion and sizzling chicken.

Once again we were very happy with our choices and all the meat on offer in both the chow mein and the chicken dish proved succulent and proved that this establishment use good quality fresh ingredients.

And that point was certainly proved with the delicious prawn dish that was moist and full of flavour and along with the fine tasting noodles completed a great main meal.

Despite being reasonably full we both decided that we could just about squeeze in a dessert each.

For this I went for the old Chinese favourite of banana fritters, while my partner had a simple sorrento ice cream.

My fritters certainly proved a great dish to end a very enjoyable meal and I have to say were the best that I had ever experienced.

My partner was equally happy with her experience at Woodford House and given that we had two beers and a spirit and mixer to add to our bill, we felt that at £43.50 this venue certainly proves good value for money and certainly worth more people paying this place a visit.
