Chingford 144-10
Col'ster & E Essex 166-7
(Lge Cup Round One)

CHINGFORD'S League Cup campaign was ended by Colchester in a low--scoring contest.

Having lost the toss and been asked to field, Chingford restricted Colchester to a modest 166-7 from 45 overs.

But the batsmen could not complement the work of their bowlers, losing wickets regularly and falling 22 runs short in their reply.

Chingford got off to the perfect start with Paul Shawyer catching opener Julian Russell off Brian Pieterson with just the second delivery of the innings.

Next out was Greg DeSilva who fell for 19 with the scores at 34-2. But then Colchester's Adam Rutter and Andrew Kennedy shared a stand of 80 before Ben MacGregor claimed the first of his two scalps, removing the Colchester man for 31.

Kennedy moved on to 60but Chingford picked off the visitors' middle order to reduce them to 166-7.

Pieterson was their best bowler, taking three wickets at a cost of 29 off eight overs, but Chingford were tight all round with Angelo Bass going for just 19 from his nine overs.

Everything appeared to be going to plan before James Hill's dismissal precipitated a mini-collapse.

The hosts went from 25-0 to 40-3 and needed a rescue act from Pieterson with 41, and Niraj Odedra who struck a four and a six on his way to 24.

At 106-3 Chingford again looked set for victory but then the wickets began to tumble once more, with only wicketkeeper Sam Kirnon able to stem the tide with a quickfire 20.

Josh Kentwell and Julian Russell were the hosts' tormentors-in-chief, both picking up four wickets as Chingford crumbled to 144 all out off 39.4 overs.
