Walthamstow 85-10
Harold Wood 136-10
(Lge Cup Round One)

WALTHAMSTOW crashed out of the League Cup at the first hurdle after a disastrous batting display saw them fall 51 runs short of a very achievable target.

Having won the toss and put their visitors into bat, Walthamstow would have been very happy with their work in the first half of the contest after dismissing Harold Wood for 136. But with only Ashley Leat, Mike Harris Junior and Greg Harris managing to reach double figures in reply, Walthamstow were hastily disposed of, eventually succumbing with a miserable total of 85.

It had all looked so promising for the Stow when away openers Mirza (15) and Sohail (four) were removed cheaply.

The home side continued to chip away at the Harold Wood batsmen, with only a score of 41 from Mangalapally carrying the visitors to a score of three figures.

Greg Harris starred with the ball, claiming four wickets at a cost of just 31, while James Thompson, Neal Johnson and Haroon Malik claimed two scalps each.

But all their good work was undone at the start of the hosts' response as the early losses of skipper Rob Oram (nil), Tim Cartwright (two) and Malik (four) took them to a precarious position.

Opener Leat scored nearly half of his side's runs in compiling 35 before falling LBW to Shazad, but with Mike Harris (13) and Greg Harris (11) providing the only other individual totals above four, they fell well short.

The visitors' wickets were spread evenly with Brabner snaring three batsmen and Hall, Shazad and Smith taking two apiece as Harold Wood ended the Stow's innings inside 41 overs and booked themselves a second-round tie at Gidea Park and Romford.
