Old Parkonians 147 a/o
Saffron Walden 211-6
(League Cup 1st rnd)

OLD PARKS let Premier League champions Saffron Walden off the hook in this cup fixture.

The visitors won the toss and decided to open the batting, which didn't look the best of decisions when Ryan Sparrow (11), Thomas Westley (nil) and Craig George (four) perished and leaving them on 39-3.

Giles Ecclestone (80) and Anthony Brown (32) restored some order. Tom Rodda (33), along with Joe Holland and Simon Parmenter, who produced undefeated knocks of 35 and ten respectively, pushed the visitors to a final total 211-6.

Glen Sasikaran (3-30) led the attack, while Kevin Hughes and Imran Khan chipped in with a wicket each.

The old boys reply got off to a bad start with John Richards removed for just one run. Kris Bostock (10) was soon to follow, although knocks of 44 and 40 from opener Bobby Curtis and Jason Ryan respectively gave the hosts some hope.

But with Nick Batcheler (3-25) and Anthony Brown (3-4) working their way through the hosts order, only Glen Sasikaran (12), Hughes (15) and Jamie Abbott (10) managed double figures as Old Parks crashed all out for 137.

Old Parks skipper Abbott said: "At 39-3 we were in a very good position, but a few dropped catches and a batting collapse towards the end cost us."
