Loughton 217-6
Hutton 282-3
(Lge Cup Rnd One)

LOUGHTON'S failure to come up with the required run rate saw them crash out of the League Cup at the first hurdle following this 11-run defeat.

The visitors opened the batting at the Uplands and posted 282-3 from their allotted 40 overs, with Schalke Van Der Merwe (126) and David Hammond (136) leading the way.

Harris Afridi (3-55) was the only home bowler to enjoy any success with the ball.

While the hosts lost Steve Gray (12) and Keith Butler no score fairly early in their reply, opener Nick Carlier and Afridi with an excellent century gave Loughton every chance of catching Hutton's total.

Chris Abeysighe (28) and Rob Wilden (16) also pushed on the Loughton total, but in the end they ran out of overs with Asif Khan and Stuart Greenhill still at the crease with undefeated scores of ten and three respectively.
