SEVEN boys have appeared in court charged with killing a Lithuanian teenager.
Deividas Strizegauskas, 13, from Plaistow, died from head injuries in a central London hospital the day after being found unconscious in Princes Terrace, close to West Ham United's Upton Park stadium, at 3.20pm last Wednesday.
Three 15-year-olds and two 14-year-olds from Plaistow and one 15-year-old and a 14-year-old from East Ham appeared at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Monday charged with his manslaughter.
One of the teenagers is now in custody, and the remaining six have been remanded on conditional bail. They will be appear before magistrates at Stratford in eight weeks, and have had to hand over their passports, report to police and live outside Newham.
A number of items were recovered in Princes Terrace. Investigating officer Det Chief Insp Jason Gwillim said a forensic examination was carried out at the scene and police were working with schools in the immediate area.
"We would urge anybody who has information about this incident, or any further information, to contact the incident room on 8345 3865," he said.
A spokeswoman for Newham Council said: "We were very sorry to hear of Deividas's tragic death. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends.
"We will continue to work with the police in their investigation."
