Woodford Wells 207-5
Chelmsford 204-6 (dec)
(Division One)

WOODFORD Wells swept to the top of the table after managing to secure a win from this rain-hit game at the Monkhams against Chelmsford on Saturday.

The visitors opened the batting and worked their way to a useful-looking 204-6 from just 35 overs.

Duncan Paveling (66) provided the bulk of the runs, although there were other useful contributions from Matt Thurston (34), Paul Jones (29) and Neil Goodman (27).

Robert Smith led the attack with excellent figures of 3-48 from his seven over spell with Jeremy Mordrick (2-65) and Jerron Semper (1-46) picking up the other wickets in conditions that seemed to favour the batsman on the day.

The visitors attack started strongly and while home skipper and opener Will Rodgers was able to produce a knock of 23, fellow opener Neil Henderson (seven) and Knut Willmott (no score) quickly perished to leave the hosts on 2-19.

The ship was firmly steadied by an excellent undefeated century innings from Semper, and coupled with knocks of 29 and 32 from brothers Shankar and Remesh Gunalan respectively the hosts secured victory.
