A HAIRDRESSER has raised thousands of pounds for hospitals following her husband's battle with cancer.

Lynn Trevallion has been holding numerous raffles and, with the generous support of customers at Lynn's Hair Fashions in Wood Street, has raised funds for Whipps Cross Hospital and the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

The grandmother-of four has just raised another £600 for the Royal London and said it was important for her to help the hospital where her late husband, Keith, was referred to for treatment for Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphoid tissue.

The 61-year-old said: “We have always supported Whipps Cross Hospital where possible and over the years have bought drip stands, bedside lockers, a special heart chair and many commodes – which have always been much-needed.”

She said that after her husband died in 1997, she decided she wanted to help the Royal London Hospital “in a small way” and customers have been kindly donating money and goods for on-going fund-raising, which has amounted to thousands of pounds.

She said: “All these ladies over the years have supported my fund-raising. It is a lovely community and a real team effort.”

Since starting her fund-raising, the mum-of-two has received support from her and her husband's favourite performer, singer Joe Longthorne, who had the same cancer as her husband.

He nearly died from the disease several times but has bounced back and is has a 100-date tour coming up.

Mrs Trevellion said: “All this is now only possible because every day the doctors, nurses and specialists are making break-throughs that can only be done with the help of ordinary people's efforts; so lets keep up the fight and one day we will find a cure for this awful illness.”
