A CARJACKING victim has called for CCTV to be installed at the busy road junction where he was robbed - after another driver was attacked at gunpoint at the same spot.

Ross Tillman, 30, believes security cameras should be positioned at the traffic lights opposite the Eagle pub in Snaresbrook Road to deter thieves from targeting motorists.

Mr Tillman, who had his Mercedes sports car stolen by a gang of carjackers at the junction last September, made the call after a van driver was robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint by a thief at the same junction last Thursday (May 20).

In the latest incident, which took place at about 9.45am, the gunman held the weapon to the man's head and forced him to drive to an alleyway behind a parade of shops in Wanstead High Street where he made him take off his trousers.

He then drove off in the van into Hollybush Hill in the direction of the Green Man Roundabout leaving the driver to walk to Snaresbrook Crown Court for help - minus his trousers.

Mr Tillman said: "It's shocking what happened to that bloke.

"I really feel for him.

"This is the third time this has happened in that area recently, because after it happened to me a guy called me up to say that the same thing had happened to him just a little bit further down the road.

"Drivers are obviously being targeted there. They should put some CCTV up there to try and stop this happening again."

The man involved in the most recent attack is described as white and was wearing a grey hooded top at the time.

Detective Superintendent Nick Simpson of Redbridge Police told the Guardian recently: "Gun crime is on the decrease in Redbridge.

"Carjackings in Redbridge are still relatively rare, but there are criminals who are targeting cars through a variety of methods in the borough.

"There have been times when criminals are loading cars directly onto pick-up trucks or tow trucks.

"We have also got situations where people leave bin bags or other items in the street which makes the car owner stop and get out. The thief then gets into the driver's seat and drives off.

"If you see anyone behaving suspiciously please call 999."

Anyone with information on the latest attack should call Redbridge CID on: 0208 345 2727.

A Redbridge Council spokesman said: "The council works closely with the police and other members of the Redbridge Safer Communities Partnership in determining the priority locations for CCTV across the borough.

"We take all reports of crime very seriously and incidents such as this, along with crime trends and local crime profiles are taken into account when we consider how resources can be used most effectively."
