CHINGFORD: Police raid 'nightmare neighbours' flat

A GROUP of "neighbours from hell" have been evicted because of their anti-social behaviour.

Police and staff from Quadrant Housing Trust stormed their flat in Friars Close, Chingford, after obtaining a court order demanding they leave.

The problem tenants initially ignored the order, which was issued on Thursday July 15.

However when police arrived at the scene last week they discovered that the occupants had fled.

The flat has now been boarded up.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "I feel like I have won the lottery now they have gone.

"The Neighbourhood Services Officer, Laura Cravitz, has been very supportive, as have the local officers."

PC Rob Wing from Larkswood Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: "We would appeal to anyone who has information regarding criminal and anti social behaviour to contact their local Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

"We will respond to information regarding anti social behaviour and work with partners to take positive action.

"You can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous."

The occupants may have fled but where will they turn up next to create more havoc and misery one wonders?. I had similar neighbours and it took two years to oust them so I empathise with these tenants. I'm surprised (or am I?) that Quadrant Housing Trust wasn't more proactive but these RSLs (Registered Social Landlords) have a very bad reputation for dealing with issues of anti-social behaviour on their estates, much to the frustration of the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.

My earlier comment seems to have disappeared so I'll try again. Having had problem neighbours myself I empathise with these tenants' plight. It took two years to remove the tenants in my case and, while I was hugely relieved to see them go, I was also concerned about where they would turn up next to wreak havoc and destroy people's lives. In the rhe case reported above I see a housing association was involved. I can't speak for Quadrant Housing Trust but I do know that many local Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) have a poor reputation in regard to delaing with anti-social behaviour in a proactive manner and that this is the cause of some frustration to the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.

A house which neighbours complained of as being overcrowded was visited by the council, but only after they had warned the occupants that they were coming!
The result? The council said only four people lived there.
Now there is even a tent in the back garden where some of the extra Roma are sleeping.
