TWO car drivers who caused a crash that killed two passengers have been jailed.
Zubair Dawood, 20, of Bristol Road, Forest Gate, was driving a Lexus Sport down Aldersbrook Road, in Wanstead, on June 14 last year when he lost control and hit a tree near the junction with Herongate Road.
Two 18-year-old passengers in his car, Wasim Butt, and Najib Karim, both of Forest Gate, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Dawood was yesterday sentenced to 14 months imprisonment and disqualified from driving for two years after previously pleading guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
Nabeal Javeed, 20, of Goldsmith Avenue, East Ham, who had been racing the Lexus in his BMW, was sentenced to 39 months imprisonment and disqualified from driving for two years after he too pleaded guilty to two counts of death by dangerous driving and also to two counts of causing death while having no insurance.
The deaths of the two young men prompted calls for extra safety measures to be introduced in Aldersbrook Road, and Redbridge Council has said it is currently working on proposals.
