AN adventure playground for handicapped children was given a makeover by volunteers on Saturday.
More than 200 helpers from the Orange Rock Corps project descended on the East London Handicapped Adventure Playground (ELHAP) in Woodford Bridge to repaint the equipment, decorate the front entrance and remove rubbish and dead leaves from the area.
Administrator and finance officer for the Roding Lane North playground, Alyson Geggus, said: “They did in a day what it might take months for us to do on our own.
“It's so much more appealing for the children now. It will be amazing to see their faces when they come in and see it.
“The volunteers were very well-organised and some of them were asking about coming back.”
Two groups worked in four-hour shifts in return for tickets to Royal Albert Hall concerts organised by the Orange Rock Corp project, which will include performances by Pendulum, Snoop Dogg and Mark Ronson.
The makeover was the idea of Pc Adrian Towler, who regularly checks on the playground during his patrols.
“I'm pleased with how it's come out,” he said. “You name it, they did it.”
