MORE people than ever are expected to join in with the events at Redbridge Carnival this weekend.
Singer and actress Sofia Hayat has been announced as one of the performers at the carnival near the Melbourne Field entrance to Valentine's Park, Ilford, along with many other acts, including Bollywood dancers, Irish jiggers and Punjabi singers.
Organiser Wilson Chowdhry said: “For the first time, we're getting the bigger names.
“It's growing every year. Last year, we had 7,000 people and we're hoping to get 9,000 this year.
“The weather is looking good at the weekend as well, so there are no excuses for not going.”
As well as the dancing and music, there will be children's football tournaments on Saturday and sporting activities for small children on Sunday.
The events will take place from noon to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday and the carnival procession will start at Ilford Town Hall at noon on Sunday, finishing in the park.
