A FORMER West Ham player helped an Abridge golf club win its biggest ever cup on Sunday.
Former midfielder John Moncur, who regularly plays at Woolston Manor Golf Club, made the crucial put to help win the Thornton Cup, with his son George, who plays for his father's old team, as his caddy.
The president of the club, Alan Smith, said the cup was “the one to win.”
“We're delighted,” he added. “The team did exceptionally well, but it all depended on this one put and we wouldn't have been in a position to win.”
It is the first time in the club's 20 year history that it has won the cup and Mr Smith said he hoped it would go on to defend it next year.
