A WALTHAMSTOW man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a station.

A 26-year-old man was punched in the face when he refused to hand over his possessions to two muggers at Manor Park station.

Passers-by intervened and managed to stop the attack.

The robbers then got on the same Liverpool Street-bound train as the victim, who alighted at Maryland.

The attackers continued on to Liverpool Street.

It happened on Sunday September 12 at around 10.20pm, but police have only made the details public today.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Graeme Knox, said: "The men demanded the victim hand over his property and when he refused, one of the men punched him in the face.

“Two other men then went over to assist the victim to help prevent his attackers from causing any further harm.”

The arrested man, who is 25, has been bailed until Wednesday October 13.

Police also want to speak with a second man, who is described as black, possibly of Somali descent, between 25 and 27-years-old, of medium build, with a small moustache and around 5’3’’ to 5’ 6’’ tall.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a white and red Middle Eastern-style scarf and a black top.

Det Con Knox added: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack and anyone with information is asked to come forward and help with the investigation.”
