A NEW Tesco which divided opinion among traders in a busy shopping street is set to open on December 15, it has been announced.
Some businesses in Station Road feared the express store would damage trade, while others hoped it would bring more customers into the area.
Tesco has moved in to the premises previously occupied by Uglows furnishings shop, which had been trading in the area for 100 years.
A planning application to install a new sign and a cash machine has been approved.
Carol Leslie, spokeswoman for Tesco, said: “I do not think it will be put back or brought forward, but these things are subject to change.”
