VANDALS are at fault for a series of Tube delays on the Central Line this week after 360 meters of signalling cable was stolen from a stretch of underground track.

The British Transport Police are investigating two instances in which signalling cable had been damaged and stolen between Debden and Theydon Bois Tube stations.

They received calls from Tube staff just after 6am on Monday (September 27) as 160 meters of cable was reported stolen, and again today at 5.40am following the theft of an additional 200 meters of cable.

Passengers endured delays between Epping and Leytonstone Tube stations.

Investigating officer, PC Stuart McCrae, said: “The thefts have caused disruption to people going to work on the Central line.

“We are currently investigating the incidents and working to establish the identities of those involved.

“Anyone who has information about the incidents, or who saw suspicious activity in the area overnight this week is asked to call BTP.”

Anyone with information should call the British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 and quote incident number 53 of 1/10/10.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
