BOXING bank manager Jon Stone spent Friday throwing punches in full boxing kit to raise almost £400 for Sport Relief.

Keen boxer Mr Stone, manager of the Loughton High Road Barclays branch, took on the challenge against a punch bag in the branch.

He said: "I wanted to do something for Sport Relief that was a bit unusual but would allow me to continue doing my job."

Staff and customers could make contributions with Barclays matching the £198.08 given. Mr Stone said: "It went really well and was a real success, everyone was very supportive. I had a lot of people watch me and some kids joined in hitting the bag with me."

Staff doused Mr Stone with cold water to keep him cool as he boxed from 9am to 4.30pm with just a 45-minute break.

"I normally only box for about an hour at the most so it was not easy but Sport Relief is such a worthwhile cause it was worth it and I'm really pleased with the amount raised."
