A CAR ploughed into four men outside a bar and then crahed into a police vehicle when the driver tried to escape.

Police were called to the RS Lounge in Woodford New Road, Walthamstow, shortly after 3am on Sunday (October 3) following reports that several people had been injured after being hit by a car.

The car involved left the scene but collided with a police car in nearby Whipps Cross Road.

A total of six people were taken to hospital.

One of the men hit outside the bar suffered serious head injuries, although his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Three others were treated for minor injuries.

Two officers who were in the patrol car which was hit were not seriously injured.

The crash closed Woodford new Road for at least nine hours.

Three men, aged 21, 22 and 23 were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.

They remain in police custody this morning.

The incident comes just weeks after the RS Lounge abandoned a bid for permission to stay open until 3am on Sundays and allow under-21s to enter after 9pm.

A fight broke out outside the venue during a visit from council inspectors.

The bar currently has a licence to stay open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Witnesses should call police on 020 8345 3065 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
