A TALENTED teenage multi-instrumentalist is preparing to perform in a show to celebrate the music of reggae legends Bob Marley & The Wailers.

Camara Fearon, who is studying for her GCSEs at Connaught School for Girls in Connaught Road, Leytonstone, will take centre stage to perform the Jamaican group’s songs We’re Jammin’, Waiting in Vain and Is This Love? at Hammersmith Apollo next month.

As well as being an accomplished singer and songwriter, the 14-year-old also plays trumpet for the London Schools Symphony Orchestra.

One of the first songs she penned was a tribute to family friend CJ Hendricks, who was stabbed to death near Walthamstow Central station in 2008.

Miss Fearon said: “I am just one of the youth in this country trying to make a change and use music to send out a positive message.

“I love music and I want to show others that they can do it as well. It hasn't come easy – I have had to work very hard.

“I like anything from Motown to jazz, reggae and Ska. But I also enjoy classical music.

“It's difficult to balance music with my school work. But I enjoy doing it – it's what I want to do.”

Miss Fearon, who lives with her mother, Joey, 57, and father Lincoln, 57, in Poppleton Road, Leytonstone, also plays the drums, saxophone, and keyboard at grades five and six.

Her proud mum said: “Camara wrote her first poem when she was at nursery school. It was only when she was 10 that she came out with this beautiful voice.

“She is so adamant this is what she wants to do – we are so proud of her.”
