A LEYTONSTONE school has raised £1,400 in aid of the Pakistan Floods Appeal.

Schoolchildren at Buxton School in Cann Hall Road, Leytonstone, took part in a non-uniform day on Friday (Ocotber 1).

Each and every pupil paid at least a pound towards the appeal.

And while those in the primary and secondary schools dressed down, the school's nursery children made their mark by selling cakes baked during class.

Jackie Bowers-Broadbent, deputy head teacher, said: “It was great to allow the children to wear non-uniform for the day.

“They did power-point presentations which looked at the plight of the floods in Pakistan.

“It was a powerful piece of teaching that the children took on.

"There's a huge commitment to teaching global affairs to children, and developing their awareness of what's going on in the world around them.

“And the nursery children wanted to go about raising money by making cakes and selling them back to the children.

“They were all sold by the end of the day. There's no better way to raise money than by making cakes.”
