FIRE engines in the district could soon have adverts pasted on the side of them in a bid to save money.

Essex Fire Service, which announced on Wednesday that it would have to save about £7.6 million as a result of the Government's Spending Review, is considering the move as a way of clawing back some cash.

A spokeswoman said: “It's following on from a consultation regarding the budget cuts with feedback from staff and the public.”

The fire brigade already displays posters promoting fire safety on its engines and received a good public response on plans to display adverts on billboards at fire stations during the consultation.
