TWO cricket legends gave their support to a school cricket team's tour of Namibia and South Africa.
Bob Willis MBE, the former England captain and pundit, and Derek Underwood MBE, former England and Kent player, were guest speakers at a lunch in the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Bancroft’s School’s first XI’s cricket tour began on Saturday, December 4, and on the same day Mr Willis and Mr Underwood entertained more than 100 Old Bancroftians, parents and friends of the school with reminiscences and other stories during a question and answer session.
At the lunch, the Woodford Green school was given a new set of 1st XI cricket shirts which have been sponsored by the Spire Roding Hospital in Clayhall.
One of the shirts was presented to Bancroft’s sixth form pupil Nigel Jacob by Jan Rice, head of clinical services at the hospital.
The event raised about £6,000 towards the costs of school sports tours.
