A COUNCIL benefits office will be unable to provide a full service to residents for at least a week after its heating system broke down.

The fault at the Waltham Forest Direct (WFD) shop in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, is unlikely to be fixed until at least Wednesday, January 5, the authority said today.

All other council services available at the building are unaffected.

A spokesman said: "If you have an urgent query about your benefit, please consider using one of our online forms, visiting one of the other WFD shops or telephoning the benefits service on 020 8496 8550 during normal working hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, excluding Bank Holidays.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
