AS I sit on the platform at Euston, lager in one hand and crisps in the other (don't ask how I'm managing to type), mere hours away from ringing in the new year, it seems a fine time to reflect on the highs and lows in the life of a Spurs fan in 2010. In no particular order.

HIGHS
- Completing a nearly unthinkable run-in to the 2009/2010 season with wins against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City to secure fourth spot and all the Champions League loveliness that goes with it.

- Beating Young Boys (stop sniggering) to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

- Securing qualification for the second round of the Champions League, something which seemed like no more than a pipe-dream when the draw was made.

- Aston Villa's Robert Pires squaring up to Harry Redknapp on the touchline after the Frenchman made a particularly reckless challenge – or, more specifically, the knowledge that Harry would have messed him up, big style.

- Signing Rafael van der Vaart. For eight million quid.

- Overturning deficits against Liverpool and Arsenal to win a pair of absolutely crucial games.

- Gareth Bale's stunning hat-trick at the San Siro, which turned an ignominious 4-0 failure into a glorious 4-3 defeat.

- Gareth Bale's magnificent assists in the return game against Inter Milan, which sealed one of the best results in living memory.

- Gareth Bale's left foot.

- Gareth Bale's accent.

- Gareth Bale's hair.

- Gareth Bale.

LOWS
- Conceding first and having to fight back to get a result. Every. Chuffing. Week.

- Seeing the Spurs players in the England line-up, along with every other member of the squad, perform dismally at the World Cup in South Africa.

- Benoit Assou-Ekotto's hair.

So, all in all, a pretty good 12 months. And hopefully 2011 will continue in the same vein with a distinctly winnable matches against Fulham and Everton over the New Year break.

Easy on the sherry chaps, there are games to be won.
