THE public can have their say on what they want to see on Walthamstow's Arcade site from tomorrow.

The council has appointed Maccreanor Lavington and Gort Scott to carry out a consultation on the area inviting local groups to take part.

This week Waltham Forest Civic Society said taxpayers money was being wasted on pointless consultations.

Adrian Stannard questioned why more consultants were needed to look at the redevelopment of the town centre.

A previous consultation on the area by the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment cost taxpayers £30,000, but the findings have yet to form part of any firm plans.

A £55,000 consultation by BDP Urbanism on the possible use of land around the Town Hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow, has also not contributed to formal development guidelines. The council said the progress was affected by the economic downturn. But their latest consultation starts this weekend.

The site, on the corner of Hoe Street and the High Street, has been empty for almost a decade following the collapse of various development plans.

Consultants will be seeking people's views tomorrow from 10am to 12pm in the Market Square near High Street; 1pm to 3pm at the library; and 3pm to 5pm inside The Mall, Selborne Walk.

On Wednesday January 26 the consultation will take place: 7.30am to 9.30am in the Market Square near the bus station; 10am to 12pm at the library; 1pm to 3pm at The Mall, Selborne Walk.

Another public consultation is planned in March.
