A PIZZA company is refusing to deliver to customers in a Walthamstow street it claims is too dangerous.

Suzi Burrows, 41, of Cheney Row, Walthamstow, was told by Dominos in Old Church Road, Chingford, that she would have to meet a delivery man at a nearby location in order to get the food she had ordered online.

The member of staff said there had been a number of recent attacks on drivers and pizzas had been stolen. Mrs Burrows has lived in Cheney Row for over 10 years said she has never heard of any muggings happening in the street.

She added: “If he was so concerned with the biker’s welfare then surely a car would be safer?

“I suffer from sciatica and would not have been able to make the walk.

“If I had wanted a take-away, I would have gone for one, but I ordered a delivery.

“I do feel this is very bad customer service and they had a cheek to ask me to go out and fetch the food myself.

“Not to mention the fact that they were so concerned for his delivery guy.

“He was on a motorbike and easily able to get away, but he was more than happy for a woman to go out on foot alone ”

Mrs Burrow’s husband, Neil, 43, is a community volunteer who works with the council and police to report any anti-social behaviour. He said: “I am quite baffled.”

“You get the odd local young people playing around but I have not noticed anything like what they are suggesting.

“No other company has told us they won't deliver to us.

“If they don't want us to order they should never have put their leaflets through our door."

The pizza was eventually delivered to Mrs Burrows after she had made a complaint.

In a letter to the couple, Dominos Marketing Manager, Lindsey Denoven, said: “The decision to restrict delivery areas to your area was made after careful consideration and with the support of the local police.

“Team members from the store have experienced attacks and muggings over the past three months and it is clear to us, that these events were not going to ease.

"Therefore, we have decided to restrict the delivery area but will closely monitor the situation in order to establish whether or not it is possible to reinstate delivery to your area in the future."
