THE delayed multi-million pound renovation of a much-loved park is to finally get under way.
Flawed consultants’ estimates of the cost of the project in Lloyd Park, Walthamstow, and other financial uncertainties have caused deadlines to slip.
But work by contractor Jerram Falkus is now due to start on Monday, June 20.
The entire park will be closed for the first three days, with public access to part of Aveling Fields via Brettenham Road and Winns Avenue entrances from June 23.
The council hopes to maintain public access to the park during the works, which are scheduled to end next May.
The plans include a new cafe, gallery and play areas.
The council has been forced to use money earmarked for Olympic projects to prevent grants for the renovation being lost.
Friends of Lloyd Park estimate the total cost of the project is £5.6 million.
