TWITCHERS and keen walkers are encouraged to attend a birdwatching group outing next week.

The Redbridge Birdwatching Group will be meeting for a walk around Woodford Green on June 18, in which they expect to spot around 40 different bird species.

Founder Daniel Erickson-Hull will lead enthusiasts around the Roding Fishing Lakes, in Roding Lane North, up through Roding Valley Park to follow the River Roding and back to go around the lakes.

He said: “It should be an interesting experience for amateurs and experts and I think we’ll see a large variety of the birds.”

The birds should include common terns, which come to the UK in the summer months before departing for Africa in wintertime little egrets, which are small, white herons, reed warblers and whitethroats.

The walk starts at 8am and costs £1, which is donated to the local Royal Society for the protection of Birds group (RSPB), and people can book by calling 07862 140 777 or emailing redbridgebirdwatching@hotmail.co.uk.

The meeting point will be the Roding Fishing Lakes car park, in Roding Lane North.
