HANGING baskets have brought a splash of colour to an unusually gloomy June day.

The Woodford Green Amenity Group have had 56 hanging baskets installed in The Broadway, South Woodford, and Snakes Lane West and High Road, in Woodford Green.

The baskets will remain in place between June and October after the group successfully applied for funding from the Area 2 Committee to split the £4,065 total cost between them.

The committee contributed £2,032 towards the baskets, which will be watered two to three times a week.

Geoff Stimpson, chairman of the group, said: “It should be a lovely sight for the area, and add a bit of colour to the grey skies today.

“They normally take a fortnight to really bloom but they’ll look great. I’m delighted the committee decided to fund the baskets with us.”
