Watford's Helen Freeman led the way for Great Britain to claim a bronze medal at the inaugural under-25's World Championships in Canada.

One of the players of the tournament, the wheelchair basketball star used all her paralympic experience to lead Great Britain to a 62-42 victory over host nation Canada in the bronze medal match.

Freeman proved a lynchpin in the side throughout the tournament and the established squad member notched an impressive 28 points in the final match with 16 rebounds and nine assists.

The former Rickmansworth School pupil was paired in attack with Amy Conroy as they looked to build their relationship and understanding further after the Paralympic World Cup success earlier in the year.

Britain progressed to the knockout rounds of the tournament with a fine win against Mexico despite losing to eventual winners, USA, and runners-up, Australia.

Fellow Europeans, Germany, were defeated en route to the semi final but America proved too strong once again to halt Britain's progress.

Great Britain Head Coach, Jen Browning said: "I'm understandably very proud of the team, it has been a remarkable improvement over the last 12 months from all the players and bringing home a bronze medal is testament to this."

Freeman was part of a squad whose sponsorship deal with the Federation of Small Businesses enabled them to attend the tournament at Brock University in St Catharine.

National sponsorship chairmen for the Federation of Small Businesses, Norman Lay said: "We are delighted to work with such talented medal-winning players like Helen who are set to raise the standard at the 2012 Games. Helen is a true inspiration to us all and the Federation of Small Businesses is proud to support her on her journey."

Freeman has been selected in the squad of 12 for the European Championships in Israel which takes place next month.
