A FOOTBALL star has been fined for fly-tipping after dumped rubbish was traced back to his home following complaints from neighbours.
Frederic Piquionne, a 32-year-old France international, who plays for Championship side West Ham United, dumped ten black bin bags, two clear recycling bags and a cardboard box on a grass verge opposite the driveway to 32-46 London Road in Stapleford Tawney, only three miles from his house in Oak Hill Road, Stapleford Abbots.
Residents reported the fly-tipping to the council and when they investigated council environment and neighbourhoods officers found documentary evidence in the rubbish linking it to Mr Piquionne.
At Harlow Magistrates Court on August 2, Mr Piquionne pleaded guilty to knowingly or willingly permitting waste to be deposited.
Taking in to consideration the fact that Piquionne dumped the rubbish next to a wheelie bin and that he may not have been aware of UK waste control methods, magistrates gave Mr Piquionne a twelve month conditional discharge and also ordered him to pay £449 towards Epping District Council’s prosecution costs.
Councillor John Knapman, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “Littering your waste on somebody else’s land can cause a health hazard, looks unsightly, blocks waste storage areas, and can attract rats.
“Environment and neighbourhood officers investigate incidents of illegal waste disposal and will prosecute offenders who fail to take responsibility for their waste and dispose of it correctly.”
