Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has admitted Luka Modric could be sold in the transfer window with the funds used to improve the squad.

Modric has made no secret of his desire to move on but the club have thus far stood firm, insisting that the Croatian would not be leaving the club.

Interest in the player has not died down though and Redknapp now admits the midfielder could be sold sooner rather than later.

Quoted in various national papers, he said: “We’ve got two options with Luka; either we keep a fantastic player or we sell him, get the money and bring in four players and have a better team.

“I want him to stay but if he’s going I want the opportunity to get other players in.”

Redknapp insisted there would be no repeat of the midnight deal that saw Dimitar Berbatov leave White Hart Lane for Manchester United though.

“There’s no chance the chairman (Daniel Levy) will sell him on the last day of the transfer window.

“He did that with Berbatov a few years ago and ended up with no strikers. He won’t do that again.”
