MORE than 200 members and visitors enjoyed the exhibits of flowers, fruit, vegetables and cookery when Buckhurst Hill Horticultural Society held its autumn show at the Centenary Hall, St John's Church on Saturday.

Chairman Maureen Briggs said she was delighted that the society's third show this year was such a resounding success.

She was pleased to welcome new exhibitors and hoped they had fun and enjoyed the experience.

Members and visitors are invited to St James United Reformed Church, Palmerston Road, Buckhurst Hill, for the first of the winter talks on at 8pm on Monday, October 2, when John Walker' will give a talk entitled The Humble Spud.

Show trophy winners were: Garden News Challenge Shield (best exhibit in show), best horticultural exhibit, National Dahlia Society Silver Medal (best exhibit) and G.F. Drayson Memorial Trophy (most points in dahlia classes), Alan Gillingwater.

The Chrysanthemum Trophy, National Chrys-anthemum Society Silver Medal (best exhibit) and National Chrysanthemum Society Bronze Medal (second best exhibit), Ray Ryder.

The Sunray Trophy (most points in general horticultural section), Marcia Levan-Harris; The Holden Fruit Trophy and the Holden Cookery Trophy, Ann Critchley The Allotments Chall-enge Cup, National Veget-able Society Silver Medal (best exhibit) and the Martin Bailey Memorial Trophy, Cyril Smith.

The Floral Cup (winner of class 78 - interpretation of a film title), Kathy Stangaard; Best flower arrangement (vertical elegance), Kamila Sunda; Best cookery exhibit (cheese biscuits), Pamela Wells.
