A TRAINEE teacher who may be scarred for life after having a brick thrown in her face during the riots has appealed for those with information to come forward.

Alice Youngman, 27, had just got off a train at St James Street station in Walthamstow and was trying to get home with with her boyfriend and two friends when she was attacked.

Her jaw was so badly broken she was left needing major facial reconstruction surgery, and doctors are unsure if she will ever fully recover.

Police are appealing for those with information about the "horrific" attack, which happened at around 11.40pm on Monday August 8, to come forward so the perpetrator can be brought to justice.

Ms Youngman said: "We'd just got off at St James Street station when these two kids on bicycles came riding towards us. They told us to get out of the way and my partner told them to watch it because they were on the pavement.

"It seemed like banter but a few seconds later one of them came back and threw the brick right at us.

"I don't remember much of what happened next but next thing I knew I was lying on the floor covered in blood.

"It felt like all my teeth had come out."

Her partner Chris Savva, a 32-year-old drug and alcohol support worker, said: "It was chaos. There was blood everywhere.

"It took more than 15 minutes for any emergency services to arrive because of what was going on all over London, and it was a police car that got there first, not an ambulance. And then A&E was like a warzone.”

Ms Youngman, who is originally from Oxford but stays with her partner in Markhouse Road, said she was left badly shaken.

“It's really badly affected both me and my family. I can't go out alone and I can't even eat solids for a month.

“I want the guy to be caught not just to get justice but to make him aware just how badly he hurt me.”

Mr Savva said: “I'm really angry at the people who did this. But also you see [mayor of London] Boris Johnson giving £8million to Tottenham Hotspur to repair their damage but there's nothing for victims like Alice. We've got to pay thousands in dental surgery but no-one will help.”

The two youths are described as black and aged between 15 and 20. One was wearing a grey hooded top. It is though they may have been taking part in that night's disorder.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Michelle Peters on 0203 2760962. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
