PLANS are being drawn up to create a temporary campsite at the Waterworks nature reserve and golf centre during the 2012 Olympics, it has emerged.

The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority has confirmed it is "working towards" such proposals at the site, which is off Lammas Road in Leyton, although it has not released further details.

There have been suggestions that the site will provide accommodation for an army of 1,000 cleaners during the Games. The authority declined to comment when questioned on this by the Guardian.

A spokeswoman said: "The site will be available to members of the public and will be managed in partnership with our colleagues at the camping and caravan club.

"More information will be available when the venue launches. This is scheduled for August."
